There is so much to write about this land of the rising sun. Technically, my first overseas travel in July 1987 was in Japan. Why? Because I was a transit passenger at Tokyo’s Narita airport towards my ultimate destination, which was Honolulu, Hawaii.

I have had three trips in Japan, all work-related. I barely explored Tokyo. I went to Sendai once, and attended meetings twice in the Komatsu area. I wish to go back as a tourist – and not think at all about meetings and paper presentations.

If I have only one adjective to describe Japan, I would choose the word ‘orderly’. It appears that everything is in order. Trains and buses arrive on time. Japan is the most technologically-advanced country in the whole of Asia – yet it has retained many of its customs and traditions. In terms of culinary, I would say that Japan is probably the best in food presentation. Even seemingly simple meals are artistically presented.
