Indonesia
I have probably travelled the most in Indonesia among the Asian countries. I will write in future blogs about my area-specific narratives. These would include humorous stories, adventures and even scary moments.
My upcoming article, though, is about its ‘religious diversity’. While Indonesia is considered as the largest Islamic country population-wise, other religions likewise co-exist as I have observed them during my trips. Aceh, as the gateway of Islam from the Middle East, probably has the most conservative practice. If you go to Denpasar in Bali, though, the religion is predominantly Hindu. In the capital city of Jakarta – as well as in Eastern Kalimantan and Ambon Island – various Christian churches co-exist with the mosques. There are probably more churches than mosques in the city proper of Manado. While most of my Indonesian friends are Muslims, a good number of them are Christians of various denominations.
