The land of the Vikings!
I was told to never miss visiting the Little Mermaid bronze statue in the harbor of Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital city. She is positioned on a pile of rocks near the Kastellet Fort. I was not impressed when I saw it in 1994 – may be due to the gloomy weather at the time of my visit. A close friend reminded me that my taste is simply primitive, and I don’t know how to appreciate art – particularly sculpture.
Although I appreciate its history, The Little Mermaid statue simply never left a lasting favorable impression on me as compared to the other iconic symbols in Europe that I visited. As far as I am concerned, my visit to the Little Mermaid statue was a disappointment. Period!
As opposed, I enjoyed the Tivoli Gardens amusement park in central Copenhagen that offered rides, musicals and games. I enjoyed touring the nearby museum the most – particularly the special collection about Genghis Khan and the Mongols. I also enjoyed my visit at Hirtshals, particularly the promenade at the beach of Skagen.
I will write more on this Denmark visit later.
